Accessible Formal Garden Design in Olney, Buckinghamshire

Olney

Project Details

Designed for a period property in Olney, this formal garden needed to work for two people, one of whom faces mobility challenges. Every area had to be easily accessible, wide enough to walk side by side, and ready for a wheelchair in future. The design takes its cue from the house's age and history, built around structural shrub planting for year round structure. Careful screening hides an unattractive garage gable end from the new extension, while water features and several distinct seating areas give the garden a sense of calm and choice. Treasured sculpture and pieces from the clients' previous garden were woven into the new scheme. Designed in collaboration with Sue Gilbert, the garden won APL Gold in the Collaboration category and Best in Category at the APL 2025 Awards (project value £100k-£175k), and featured in Pro Landscaper Magazine in September 2025.
